The Memorial Championship concluded Sunday, March 7th. Paul McBeth took first place, shooting -42.
Paul McBeth once again won the Memorial Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona. This A-Tier tournament presented by Discraft hosted many of the sports top players including Paul McBeth, Ezra Aderhold, Anthony Barela, Drew Gibson, the Jomez commentating crew of Jeremy Koling and Paul Ulibarri, as well as new comer Brodie Smith.
1st place was up for grabs going into the final round with Paul Ulibarri and Anthony Barela finishing at -39 and -38 respectively. However, McBeth pulled away in the back 9 and finished at -42, securing 1st place. McBeth finished in 9th place at the Vegas Challenge last weekend and was able to quickly turn it around and win this A-tier before heading to Texas and preparing for WACO next weekend.
Mainstream Disc Golf Prediction Recap
Paul McBeth will win
We predicted last week that McBeth would win this tournament. The man doesn’t like to lose. He’s the best player in the sport and took it upon himself to compete in the Memorial even though it wasn’t a DGPT event. He traveled to Arizona to win and that’s what he did. We are excited to see how he performs at WACO next weekend.
Ezra Aderhold will finish top 5
We fell short on this one. Ezra is an up and coming star after his performance in Vegas. He signed a 2-year contract with Discraft this offseason and we fully expect him to be one of the best and most marketable players in the sport in the future. I think Ezra would be the first to admit he didn’t perform like he wanted to. He finished 22nd after playing well in the opening rounds. We are looking forward to see him bounce back next weekend and remind us why he belongs in the discussion of top players in the game.
Anthony Barela will finish top 15
Barela played phenomenally this weekend. For most of the tournament he was in position to win. Last year Anthony placed 50th at this tournament and we saw his potential to outperform last years showing. Not only did he come out swinging, he was able to maintain his play the whole tournament and was toe to toe with McBeth until the end. Barela finished in 3rd place. He is a young player to keep an eye on as the DGPT season continues.
