Disc Golf Sponsor Battle?

Hear us out. This would be the best event of the year.

In its current state, disc golf is a content-driven sport. In addition to the consistent tournament coverage, both live and post production, there is a growing demand for more content that captures any aspects of the sport. GK Productions skins matches and Jomez Productions practice rounds demonstrate the interest in different types of competition. In disc golf right now the motto is essentially; if you film it, we will watch. This opens up a huge opportunity for the DGPT to introduce new types of competitions; especially those that involve less total players to make the production easier.

The perfect competition for this new era of disc golf is a “sponsor battle”. Imagine a competition where the major brands of disc golf (Discraft, Innova, Discmania, Prodigy, etc) all put up a team of 3-5 of their best sponsored players and they compete as teams to score the lowest cumulatively.

The pro tour is already getting creative with their tournament offerings, with the all stars weekend at the beginning of the season nd the pro tour championship at the end, why not add something that would get all the sponsors and players excited to compete as teams. We can imagine fans falling in love with this event.

There are currently no major team tournaments on the pro tour and there is no better way to separate the top players than their sponsor! This could create a yearly marquee event for bragging rights between the major disc golf brands; what could generate more hype than that!

Almost any form of this tournament would be entertaining, but we have pitch for how this could work. A three round tournament at three unique courses, each team would have a set number of players (5-8 would be good) with a mix of MPO and FPO, and the lowest cumulative score over the weekend would take it home. To add some spice, each team could designate one captain per day who’s strokes would count double (or triple), and the captain from the leading four teams would be on that day’s lead card, and no player could be captain twice. This would add strategy and extra pressure on the individual players and make for some really intense moments, which we all love to see.
