The Memorial Championship presented by Discraft is an A-Tier tournament going down this upcoming weekend from March 4th through March 7th in Arizona.

The top players in disc golf are coming off the first major DGPT tournament of the season with the conclusion of the Las Vegas Challenge. Eagle McMahon absolutely dominated the field ending the weekend shooting -48, putting him in first place to start the year.

We saw some other notable finishes in Vegas including Paul McBeth sliding into 9th place after the news of his new 10-year, $10 million dollar contract extension with Discraft gained media traction. As well as Brodie Smith, McBeth’s Discraft teammate, finishing in the top 25 for the first time in his DGPT career after moving over from the American Ultimate Disc League.

The 2021 Memorial Championship will host many of the sport’s top players. The final card in 2020 had a lot of star power featuring Eagle McMahon, Calvin Heimburg, Drew Gibson, and Paul McBeth. Expect to see a similar outcome this weekend with the top tier players vying for first place in the final round.

Mainstream Disc Golf Predictions

  • Paul McBeth will finish in the top 3

This isn’t a hot take by any means, Paul McBeth has consistently been the best player in the sport for almost a decade. Coming off a 9th place finish in Vegas will give him all the motivation he needs to power through this weekend. Disc Golf has been gaining momentum in sports media, driven by McBeth’s hefty contract extension. He understands the opportunity to grow his brand and the sport and will likely finish in the top 3. Don’t be surprised if he finishes at the top of the pack and starts his campaign for another stellar year.

  • Ezra Aderhold will keep proving why he is a top player

Ezra came onto the disc golf scene in 2020, finishing the season in 21st place in the DGPT standings. He also just came out swinging this year with a 2nd place finish in Vegas. Expect Ezra to keep this momentum going at the Memorial Championship with another top 5 finish. He will establish himself as one of the top players in the sport this season and will keep stringing along good performances.

  • Anthony Barela will keep up with Ezra and McBeth

Barela is a young, up and coming player from Arizona. He has been finding his footing in the DGPT in past seasons and placed 50th at the Memorial Championship in 2020. Barela will be opening this year’s Memorial Championship on the same card as Ezra and McBeth. Expect him to match their game in his opening round and finish the tournament in the top 15. Barela represents a youth movement in the sport and will continue his climb up the leaderboards in 2021.

Come back Monday for a full recap of the tournament and follow on twitter for more coverage.
